Both countries contain parts of historic Catalonia. According to a blogpost, France is interested in learning Spanish, and Spain is interested in learning French. Furthermore, Duolingo shared a post on World Book day which aligns with the Catalán holiday of La Diada de Sant Jordí during which men gift women roses and women gift men books. It is the 12th skill that learners gain on the tree.

This is in the first weather lesson in checkpoint two on my Android app. Even Duolingo’s German course for English speakers mentioned the Catalán island of Mallorca (pictured). The case for Catalán is that it has ties and interests around the globe.
